Susan Calvillo is a Chinese/Mexican-American and a dead-on-her-feet mother of twins. Her poetry has appeared in numerous publications, including Audacious Women: An Anthology, Nightmare Magazine, and Mom Egg Review, and she is the author of the poetry chapbook Excerpts from My Grocery List. With her writing, Susan intends to spill all her secrets and inspire others to speak their truth too.
Susan advocates for diversity in the publishing industry as a production editor, while publishing medical, tech, and educational texts, and as a copyeditor of science fiction, fantasy, thriller, and literary books with fresh perspectives. Some of her clients include Macmillan, McGraw-Hill, and Foglifter.
Susan aims to support the underrepresented and multi-marginalized in their endeavors to create, express, exist, and be seen. She loves being an avid participant in her community as a literary showcase host and a mentor for BIPOC LGBTQ+ youth writing science fiction and fantasy. She’s also been a featured performer at radical local and virtual events across the country, including Writers with Drinks, The Writer’s Center, Oakland’s Beast Crawl, and Kearny Street Workshop.
